UUniCORN (Uppsala University conflicting Objectives Research Nexus) aims to enable world-leading research on complex societal challenges through an interdisciplinary approach. It is the first of six Uppsala University Future Institutes (UUniFI).
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) mark the need for a universal transition to a more sustainable society. This shift has led to numerous conflicts of interest. The term goal conflicts is a newly emerging concept referring to disagreement between actors on which goal should be prioritised if they are or seem incommensurable or disagreements between actors on which way a certain goal should be met.
UUniCORN was instigated in Autumn 2024, with a mandate to enhance knowledge and collaboration regarding goal conflicts in sustainable development. The institute engages researchers from different disciplinary domains and non-academic stakeholders to move beyond siloed thinking and co-create a desirable course of action.
