About UWC Future Tech Club
Welcome to our Cape Town Future Tech clubs network. The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is home to some of the South Africa Future Tech clubs formerly known as Mozilla clubs. The clubs were founded with Mozilla foundation, UN Women and Peo Ya Phetogo (PYP) working with Dr Mmaki Jantjies at the University of the Western Cape who was the regional coordinator for South African based Mozilla and UN Women girls clubs. The club is run by students, with this year the leaders consisting of 6 students with a major either in Information Systems or Computer Sciences. The leaders consist of Joseph Lumbahe, Atoofah Gierdin, Cassandra Ndinise, Nicola Lumpp, Siraaj Jeftha, and Ethyn Arrow. To find out more about the leaders click on 'Meet the Team' on the task bar. Each club run bi-weekdays/monthly or weekend workshops at local schools/library/computer community club. The sessions are led by computer science/information systems/information technology students. Clubs are ran in schools to enable young children from grades 9 to 11 to join. Clubs are limited to only 15 learners per club leader. All material for sessions will be provided to leaders. We will also hold events throughout the year, where we will invite the learners of both schools to come to the University of the Western Cape. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
