Building Stories

Ireland lacks accessible, reliable and dynamic baseline data on the built environment and therefore cannot efficiently manage the building stock to address the housing and climate crises, as well as the decline of rural towns and villages. Building Stories, previously Vacancy Map Ireland (VMI) is a research project funded by The National Challenge Fund Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland to assemble proxy datasets and AI, and create a comprehensive, dynamic and reliable national database of buildings, supporting the efficient use of existing building stock and therefore help in addressing the housing and climate crises.
