Valkee Ltd. is private health technology company found in 2007. Valkee studies health benefits of light, and develops and markets portable bright light therapy devices for treating seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and for accelerated recovery from jet lag.
Bright light at the right time is known to have mood-elevating effects from seasonal mood swings to anxiety and various types of depression. That’s where Valkee started, with Antti Aunio asking his childhood friend Juuso Nissilä if he had any tips to improve his mood during the winter months.
Juuso introduced Antti to his observations about the human brain being photosensitive. Aunio went on to turn Juuso’s science into the Valkee product, the brain stimulation headset that channels bright light onto photosensitive regions of the brain, transcranially via ear canals.
Valkee was born to have a big mission; helping people to stay in a better mood, and improve their quality of life by understanding and harnessing the health benefits of light, and light-sensitivity of the brain.
Today the HumanCharger headset, introduced in 2015, helps thousands of globe trotters and road warriors bet jet lag twice as fast, and the Valkee 2 headset, introduced in 2010, eliminates or reduces the winter blues symptoms of the over 70,000 satisfied customers.
