Values Based Counselling and Coaching

A growing body of evidence indicates that the majority of people enjoy a sustained sense of satisfaction when they have an opportunity to live in accordance with their most deeply held values. Such values motivate us to achieve our highest aspirations, and they underpin a life of purpose characterized by a pervasive experience of authenticity. Meanwhile, when values are compromised or ignored, life seems inauthentic, and the misalignment between our true Self and the way we live precipitates a discomfort that can lead to distress. Most forms of counseling and coaching have traditionally focused on identifying obstacles that may be overcome in order to reach desired goals. Yet often, these goals do not express deeply held values, but proceed from unquestioned assumptions. Consequently, the reward of achieving such goals is commonly short-lived. Meanwhile, Values Based Counseling and Coaching begins by discovering and identifying core values, and nurturing the commitment with which to pursue goals that are aligned with them. Subsequently, both the pursuit and achievement of these goals are deeply rewarding, accompanied by a sustained satisfaction that proceeds from personal purposeful integrity. The Values Based Counseling and Coaching Project seeks to further this approach to educational and therapeutic support.
