Varuna Blue

Varuna Blue is the winner project on the category "water" of the global hackathon "Hack For Earth". The challenge was to find a solution to fight water pollution, and Varuna Blue's answer starts right there where we need it the most: in the sea. With Varuna Blue, the team aims to produce bioplastics from seaweed farmed off coastal India; keeping our waters safe and free of plastics while creating jobs, and supporting local female farmers. Our goal is to scale up to meet India's move-away from single-use plastics in summer 2022, and beyond that, develop bioplastics dissolvable in saline water.
