Vermont Stage is a professional theatre company based in Burlington, Vermont, on a mission “to create theatre that makes our community a better place.”
We believe in the power of live performance to spark conversation, deepen empathy, and bring people together. Our work is intimate, thought-provoking, and entertaining—rooted in stories that reflect the complexity of modern life and the unique character of our time and place.
Each year, we produce a season of plays at Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center on the Burlington Waterfront, with a focus on compelling stories that invite audiences to laugh, reflect, and connect. Our productions are often paired with community engagement programs—talkbacks, local partnerships, and curated book selections with Phoenix Books—that help carry the conversation beyond the stage.
We also offer two youth-centered programs that support the next generation of storytellers: Vermont Young Playwrights, an in-school program that brings teaching artists into middle and high school classrooms to help students write their own original plays; and our Teen Tour Program, which brings professionally directed, history-based theatre to middle and high schools across Vermont to help students build empathy and compassion through live performance and guided conversation.
