Secure Chain

The Secure Chain is a joint initiative of industry and government agencies for safer and more reliable release and collection of import containers at Dutch ports. This happens first and foremost in Rotterdam. The operation of this new release and collection process is simple, but it means a different way of working together for each link. From the shipping line/shipbroker via the shipper/forwarder and the carrier, a closed chain with only known, authorised parties forms in the Secure Chain. In a secure way, they exchange need-to-know information with each other. The use of fraud-sensitive PIN codes stops. Only a carrier authorised through the Secure Chain can pre-register its arrival at the terminal and pick up the container there.
