VESPA (Association of European and Swiss Patent Attorneys) was founded in 1978 to represent the interests of professional representatives at the European Patent Office ("European Patent Attorneys") based in Switzerland. Since the entry into force of the Swiss Patent Attorneys Act in 2011, membership is also open to Swiss patent attorneys registered in the Patent Attorneys Register. Thus, VESPA sees itself today as a professional association that stands up for the interests of the entire Swiss patent attorney profession in private practice and its clients (to a large extent Swiss SMEs).
