Viissi is an online platform where articles and blogs related to sustainable development are published. Our name, Viissi, is inspired by the indigenous Arctic Sami language and means ‘wisdom.’ We found wisdom to be an appropriate name for our website since our goal is to spread wisdom and raise awareness on issues related to environmental sustainability and development. We seek to be educators and to make ideas, facts and educated opinions available and accessible to the general public in order to provoke dialogue and inspire meaningful change everywhere. We strive to address topics and issues that deserve more attention, and we believe that ignorance is not an excuse (for inaction and the continuation of non-sustainable practices). Importantly, however, our focus is rational, pragmatic and fact-based. We do not wish to be just another idealistic environmental medium. The purpose of our website is to give the reader a holistic experience where we illustrate the different, but very integrated issues concerning environmental sustainability and development. The goal is that the reader will be able to broaden his or her view of a certain issue; learn about the integrated nature of that issue in relation to other issues, while simultaneously empower and inspire that individual to take action in whichever capacity suits him or her. We do not require or demand action from the reader, but our goal is to offer (1) awareness and (2) simple solutions that are hard to ignore.
