Vila Volman

One of the finest and most expensive residences of the first Czechoslovak republic was designed by avant-garde Czech architects Karel Janů and Jiří Štursa. The villa was built in 1938-1939 for Josef Volman and his family. The architects conceived Villa Volman as an artwork in a large natural park above the romantic landscape of the Elbe River. Unfortunately, the Volman family was not able to enjoy its home for long. The fate of the villa is a reflection of the sad story of the devastation of Czech society after 1948, when the Communists came to power. The residence became a neglected ruin. In late 90´s, new owners, decided to rescue the villa and return its pre-war glory. The renovation led by chief architect Marek Tichý (TaK Architects) lasted 15 years. His team’s extraordinary dedication resulted in the faithful restoration and re-born of the modernist icon.
