VINS DE BOURGUEIL

Located in the heart of the Loire Valley, the Bourgueil vineyard covers 1,400 hectares. The Bourgueil appellation extends its vines within 7 villages between Saint-Patrice and Bourgueil. The soils are made of sand and gravels (locally called "gravier") or "tuffs", rock of clay-limestone nature. Bourgueil wines are mostly red - 96%, the remaining wines being rosé ! On "gravier" soils, the wines are full of red and black fruits flavors. They are lighter, easily drinkable when young, and can age from 2 to 5 years. They can be served a bit chilly. On the clay-limestone slopes or "tuffs", wines show more tannins and more complexity. They deserve a few years of ageing and will definitely give beautiful reds after 10 or 15 years, even more for the best vintages ! In the center of Bourgueil village, lies the family home of Jean Carmet, a former French famous actor. The house is a 15th century building, and is today the House of Bourgueil wines. It is open all year, where a dozen red and rosé wines are offered every day for tasting. This is also a great place to discover and understand the different terroirs, and of course, a good place to buy and bring several beautiful wines back home among the 130 references available.
