The world market for biodiesel is currently in excess of 19,000,000 tonnes pa with a sales value of approx US $19,000,000,000. The EU has legislated that by 2020 10% of all road transport fuel will come from renewable sources. 40% of the 10% will have to come from Electricity and Hydrogen (from renewable sources), second generation biofuel waste or non food crops. The International Energy Agency do not expect there to be any major shift away from conventionally fuelled vehicles before 2030. Currently jatropha is the only credible non food crop.
