I started Vision IT in February 2000 at aged 29. At this point I had worked various I.T positions ranging from hardware maintenance to network administration. Currently I have over 30 years’ experience in the IT industry and I still have a passion for technology after all this time. My previous role as National IT Manager for HLB Kidsons (now Baker Tilly) allowed me to develop contacts most of which are still customers of mine today. I have worked for a number of clients across the North West including Haines Watts, Rock Oil and Davis Blank Furniss. Virtualisation has revolutionised the IT industry. In simple terms it allows you run one server where you may have previously had six. Another massive benefit is the ability to relocate these servers from one box to another, something which was previously either impossible or massively challenging. The technology also makes expansions & upgrades much easier as these are now software based processes. Replicating your live servers onto machines in data centres, other offices or even in the same building can provide an added layer of protection for your business. These days the biggest risk when running a network are unwanted intrusions and damaging software. Viruses, Malware & Trojans only form part of the landscape and if your firewall has vulnerabilities you are open to abuse. Installing and maintaining decent security hardware and software is now more important than ever. I have manufacturer accreditations in Veeam backup software and Watchguard firewalls.
