About Vitalapia

The global attitude towards quality food is changing, and with it, so must the seafood industry, with more and more people crying out for sustainable development and a healthy choice. We seek to answer the questions that most concern consumers about the fish they eat. Where does this fish come from? How were those fish fed? What were the growing conditions? What is the impact that this fish production causes on the environment? What is the social impact on the communities that produce them? There is a market segment with specific wishes and demands regarding traceability. The description of the fish products they seek to consume can sum up in two words: healthy and ecologic. Vitalapia, searching to satisfy that need, developed a particular methodology to produce healthy, sustainable, ecological fish. This methodology contributed to establishing the first guidelines of Organic Aquaculture for Mexico. Our farm is currently in an organic certification process, which will make us the first organically certified tilapia producing farm in Mexico. Our approach controls the entire production cycle, from genetics, feed ingredients, growth conditions, and biosecurity, avoids the use of hormones at any stage, has no antibiotics or chemicals, and is GMO-free. Our mission is to produce healthy traceable-sustainable aqua farmed tilapia of the best possible quality for human consumption. It would be impossible to meet human demand for fish in the coming decades, which is more than double what marine fisheries currently produce, without an alternative production method. Therefore, covering the fish deficit will depend on aquaculture. However, as with any other animal production system, aquaculture can generate negative ecological impacts if not carried out responsibly. Organic aquaculture is a development strategy that tries to change some limitations in conventional production and is also a tool for sustainable rural development.
