Algaia’s project VODORASLO is developing a domestic photobioreactor device for air purification using algae as the main resource. The product is an indoor air solution for homes, schools, and offices where it can purify gases like CO2, NOX, SO2, and bigger pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, and VOCs. It is working based on photosynthesis where algae are “eating” the gases to produce oxygen and biomass. The biomass can be used as a natural fertilizer for plants, biodegradable packaging, food supply, pigment or in cosmetics. VODORASLO already developed its first device in 2021, created one hundred MVPs, and donated them to 25 Bulgarian schools. The company is working on a second prototype right now. A long-term target is to develop more complex B2B installations for bus stops, schools, hospitals, kindergartens, public space and buildings.
VODORASLO is working also on long term project in the field of material science and development of algae and seaweed based products like plastics.
