Volunteers for Development Organization

Volunteers for Development Organization (VDO) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to producing modern humanitarian voluntary initiatives and projects. Based in Al Fashir, North Darfur state, VDO specializes in developing sustainable community solutions by helping provide the mechanisms and support needed for individuals, and organizations to connect, partner and multiply their contributions to solve the community’s basic problems. Inspired by its vision of peace and sustainable development; VDO is a new generation of digital or blended voluntary organizations. VDO’s innovative approach comes from its local knowledge and expertise in addition to a heavy technical background. The organization hopes to bring together diverse people, with unique contributions, and unite them in unexpected ways to foster innovation. VDO’s mode of operation is based on Prevention; through economic independence and capacity building, and Intervention; through advocacy campaigns, emergency support, rehabilitation and integration. Six key principles underpin the workings of the Organization: 1) Providing peace and sustainable development in the Sudan Educate the community and provide sustainable livelihood activities Support the community in the use of technology for peace and sustainable development 2) Develop the skills of small and marginalized minorities, including women, in identifying potential small enterprises, adopting better production techniques and exploiting market opportunities based on the sustainable development goals. 3) Building the capacity of the community to establish strong and sustainable cooperatives that provide diverse member-based services and also facilitate the provision of inputs, resource management and mass marketing 4) Monitor and report community development activities and achievements.
