Throughout her career, Maria has been a fearless advocate for the well-being of people and planet. Maria has led the initiative to create college savings funds for all newborns in Santa Cruz County. She has worked to address affordability issues in the region and to increase assistance and capital to small businesses, including cooperative models. She led a three year public education campaign increasing acceptance of LGBTQ+ families. Maria is not a career politician; she is someone who has worked on the ground to stand up for families on the Central Coast.
Now, she is the only Democratic woman, Latina, and only candidate who will not accept corporate money running for State Senate District 17.
