VS Group

At the heart of development is science, knowledge of which is translated to creation of solutions to human problems. The VS Group is a global enterprise founded and domiciled in Sri Lanka with a global presence in Asia, Africa and Oceania. Founded on the basis of scientific knowledge and craft, the company develop and improve on technological solutions in different sectors and industries worldwide. VS Hydro is a fully integrated hydro company originating from Sri Lanka and operating in Africa. Established in 1972 to manufacture scientific equipment for schools we soon became the first solar and hydro developer and contractor in Sri Lanka. In 2009, the Company made a strategic decision to bring its expertise to East Africa. The expansion business model of VS has been to enter a new territory by first securing an EPC contract and eventually owning and operating its own projects. After the commissioning of VS’s first project in Uganda, an 18 MW project called Mpanga, the Company applied to develop 3 sites in Uganda. These projects, Siti 1, Siti 2 and Nyamagasani1, together with Nyamaghasani2, Lubilia and Kakaka which VS guided through the Pre-implementation processes, are now completed. VS constructed 7 of the 17 Getfit projects in Uganda. VS has also completed a 5MW project in Kenya and has been awarded a further two contracts. During the construction phase of Gura, VS developed its own sites in Kenya. At present VS holds concessions totaling a possible installed capacity of 78 MW. In Rwanda, VS carried out full retrofit and rehabilitation for 3 projects for the client Prime Energy and another 10MW project is under construction. VS is also implementing 3 other projects in Rwanda, and actively pursuing several new project concessions including 20MW cross border. After being awarded a project in Zimbabwe, VS identified 2 new sites in the country. This year VS is in the final stages of being financed of several project in Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Malawi.
