WOOD ELSE?

WOOD ELSE ? is a D2C startup for high quality sustainable bamboo furniture – designed and manufactured in Germany. Today, Wood is by far the most widely used raw material in furniture construction, which makes the industry one of the biggest contributors to the worldwide annual uprooting of 30 million hectars of wood land. A tree traditionally used to make furniture, such as beech or ash, takes around 70 years to grow back. NOBODY puts the same dining table in their living room for 70 years. Timeless design, FSC or Blue Angel certification or not. THIS CAN NEVER BE SUSTAINABLE. But what other material, what else or WOOD ELSE ? should be used instead of Wood. The solution to this is bamboo. When processed, bamboo has very similar technical properties to hardwood, but it grows back in less than 5 years. Moreover it stores CO2 more efficiently than wood. Bamboo grows mainly in China and Africa. We are convinced that contribution to economic upturn is the best development aid. Therefore, Mid-term, we aim to set up production facilities for our furniture in Africa. The vast natural bamboo deposits make on-site processing a logical consequence.
