About WAPP North Core Project - ECOWAS
The WAPP North Core Regional Interconnector Project involves five countries namely: Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin. The project’s main objective is to connect the five participating countries mentioned above with a high voltage 330 kV transmission line to facilitate efficient energy trade in the sub-region, to provide technical assistance to foster efficient commercial exchange agreements among its participants, and to expand access to populations along the transmission line. The North Core Regional Interconnector will have an initial capacity of about 430 MW that could reach over 600 MW five to ten years after its commissioning. In addition to the transmission lines, the project will construct or extend five substations and install SCADA and fiber cables (OPGW) along the lines.
