WARCHÉE NGO: MISSION AND VISION Registered with the ministry of interior as a Lebanese NGO (license no. 2255) and recognized as an association of public utility (2017), Warchée is an association founded by Anastasia Elrouss and Co-founded by Michele Larue-Charlus with the purpose of integrating women into the construction field. Warchée was born from the observation that in a rapidly urbanizing world, particularly in the Middle east, women are excluded from certain professions that remain the preserve of men, notably the construction, architecture, engineering and urban planning sectors. This exclusion is part of the culture, whereby from an early age, children are told which professions they may or may not access based on their gender. This discourages girls and women from even thinking about participating in certain activities though they may excel in them. Warchée works on having a presence in Lebanon and in every country where women in the sectors mentioned above are marginalized and to create an all-inclusive and evolving world with the help and contribution of women in the construction field. While this sector remains male-dominated, the organization’s objective is to help identify women interested in the field and provide them with the right tools and skills to be able to find a job in the construction sector. The association will divides the jobs in the construction field into two categories: Builders or Future Creators: Architects, engineers, landscapers, urban planners, etc. Artisans or Dream Crafters: Painters, blacksmiths, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, tile installers, etc. In line with its mission, Warchée presents a unique initiative to introduce the world of craftsmanship and construction to women of all ages who do not have access to these skills because of income, social and cultural perception and location constraints.
