We Love Reading

We Love Reading is an independent non-profit organization based in Amman aimed at encouraging the love of reading in children in Jordan and the rest of the world through the development of “a library in every neighborhood”. Founded by Dr. Rana Dajani in 2006, it has since received substantial national and international recognition. We Love Reading’s grassroots model is simple, efficient, and sustainable – it involves training community members, particularly women, to read aloud to children ages 4-10 in order to foster the love of reading and encourage community engagement. These reading circles become the neighborhood “library”. In addition to promoting the reading experience, We Love Reading libraries empower women to become leaders in their community and serve as a platform for raising awareness on issues such as gender, empathy, and the environment. WLR has also applied its innovative model to the issue of refugee education in refugee camps around the world.
