This end mill had 30 degree flutes, however in order to overcome the “pull out force” that the helical flute generated, they had to modify the shanks. This led to another industry leading innovation, the Weldon Flat or Weldon Shank. The design and specification of the Weldon Flat is still accepted today as an industry standard.
Since then, Weldon has contributed a number of innovations to the cutting tool industry; the Weldon Zero Flute Countersink, the Weldon Crest Kut (in high speed steel), and Weldon’s Tri-Power, solid carbide, end mill for aluminum.
