Our members live in various parts of Wensleydale, within a radius of about 15 miles from the market town of Leyburn, where we usually meet at The Leyburn Arts and Community Centre on alternate Monday evenings at 7.30pm.
The club organises three fundraising events each year:
The Wensleydale Wander in April where participants can choose between two circular walks over 12 or 23 miles through the beautiful Wensleydale countryside
The James Herriot Country Trail Run held in July which is set on country tracks starting and finishing at Bolton Castle
The Wensleydale September Saunter which is a circular 13.6 mile walk around Leyburn travelling through Middleham and the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Wensleydale Rotary is able to support the community and has made donations to Wensleydale school, Leyburn Community Shed, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and many others.
Together with Blueboxt Creative and Performing arts we organise the local heats for the Rotary Young Musician of the Year. The winner goes forward to an area heat and finally to a national final.
Every year we support a student to attend the Rotary Youth Leaders Award training where for a week they participate in team building programmes to build confidence, motivation and leadership skills.
Together with other local Rotary clubs we help organise a Tech tournament for local secondary schools where the students have an unseen design and technology problem to be completed in a fixed time.
As part of the wider Rotary movement the club supports international projects such as the End Polio Campaign making a huge difference to communities at home or abroad.
Rotary brings people together from all walks of life with members sharing their skills, experience and talents to give back to the community
