About Us Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club (WSLSC) was officially formed on 1 December 1949; at that time we had only six volunteer lifeguards to patrol the beach. We have come a long way since our inception and now boast a strong membership base and have some of the best club facilities within Surf Life Saving in New Zealand. Our Purpose To protect our community in the water – an institution for promoting, enabling and delivering fun, safe coastal recreation.
