Whole Brain Tutoring

Hello! My name is Joel Alvarez, founder of Whole Brain Tutoring. I’m a Northwestern University graduate with nearly 2 years of private tutoring experience. I have previously worked as an English instructor in Thailand, summer camp coordinator in Evanston, and child care provider in downtown Chicago. I’m comfortable working with pre-k through high school students in any subject. Furthermore, I can provide assistance in foreign language courses like Spanish and elementary Portuguese. I also offer high school + college test/essay/admissions prep. When tutoring, my goal is simple — maximize engagement & retention of material by involving movement-orientated activities and stimulating students’ senses. I offer personalized one-on-one lessons and closely track each student’s progress by maintaining individualized notes on Google sheets. I use these insights to deliver weekly tutoring summaries and plan future learning objectives. I service the Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana regions.
