Created by members from Vancouver Women in Data Science, DataCan's goal is to connect not only aspiring and working data professionals, but anyone who is curious about handling and extracting insights from data. It is meant to support diversity, people from all backgrounds and gender, so is open to everyone, just as long as you are inclusive and welcoming. We understand that getting a foot in the door can be challenging and we also understand that some people love to teach and help out with newcomers.
DataCan Network host a series of casual, fun yet informative and technical events all year round: career fairs, peer research, and project talks, meetups, workshops, themed panel discussions, group outings for great food, etc.
One of our annual events is Vancouver Women in Data Science conference, and it is a collaboration with Stanford University to celebrate distinguished women doing outstanding work in the field of data science. All genders are invited to attend all WiDS Worldwide conference events.
The Women in Data Science (WiDS) initiative aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and to support women in the field. WiDS started as a one-day technical conference at Stanford in November 2015. Five years later, WiDS is a global movement that includes a number of worldwide initiatives.
