Widya Indonesia aims to support, nurture and empower Indonesian women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by building resilience through networks, advisers and role models.
Widya originates from the Sanskrit term "vidya," translating to knowledge or wisdom. In Indonesian culture, Widya is commonly linked with intellect, schooling, and the pursuit of knowledge. Widya is a frequently chosen name for girls in Indonesia, and therefore it represents the vision and mission of our project.
Established in 2024, our vision is of a progressive STEM labour market where Indonesian women can contribute equally to advancements in their fields and have fair access to the jobs of the future. Our mission is to address the gender equality gap in the Indonesian STEM workforce and empower Indonesian women to pursue high-skilled careers in the STEM fields.
This project is delivered by Edinburgh Napier University United Kingdom and Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya in collaboration with Equate Scotland.
The project is funded by the British Council’s Gender Equality Partnerships grant.
