I’m a globally recognized leader in Python development and open source software. I’ve spent
my career learning, creating, sharing—as a core Python developer, as a leader in open source
governance, as an engineer, as a parent, as an ever-curious human. Today, I get to share my
knowledge and insights with others as a board advisor, keynote speaker, consultant, and mentor
on topics ranging open source and data science to AI, cloud, and Machine Learning.
“I was interested in doing it, there was an opportunity, so I just did it.” I approach life with an
insatiable appetite for learning and a passion for sharing my knowledge with others and learning
alongside them. As a three-time Python Steering member—including serving on the
inaugural council; a Project Jupyter core contributor, and Project Jupyter core
contributor, my dedication to the language can be felt far and wide. JupyterHub has
transformed the way research institutions and universities educate, and my council to
companies have allowed organizations to rapidly grow, create cultures of high-
performing teams, and navigate the complexities of their cloud and data science
investments.
I believe in inclusive leadership, in the power of community, and in the power of network at
scale. I’m fiercely dedicated to sharing knowledge with others—in everything from five minute
moments to global stages. I’m also deeply committed to empowering others to rise in their
careers, especially women. I frequently speak to audiences around the world—PyCon, WIA,
PyLadies, SciPy, Language Creators Panel—and, I’ve built a reputation for
communicating technical concepts with story, empathy, and humility. I am
the recipient of the ACM Software System Award (2017) and the Frank Willison Award
for technical and community contributions to Python (2019). When I’m not coding or
researching cognitive sciences, you’ll find me in my garden, painting, or crafting wearable
electronics with open hardware.
