Academic Lead: Prof. Mahdi Azarpeyvand (m.azarpeyvand@bristol.ac.uk) Technical Manager: Michael Truby (mike.truby@bristol.ac.uk) Project Officer: Harriet Lloyd (harriet.lloyd@bristol.ac.uk) The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bristol is the home to a range of wind tunnel facilities in the country with unique capabilities, including: (i) an Aeroacoustic wind tunnel (part of National Wind Tunnel Facility) (ii) a pressure-neural acoustic wind tunnel dedicated to electric propulsion noise and aerodynamics (iii) a large close-circuit wind tunnel with 7’ x 5’ test section with gust generator and advanced force balance for dynamics and aeroelasticity (iv) an 18m-long boundary layer wind tunnel designed to carry out a versatile range of applications from environmental flow to low-speed aerodynamics (v) a low turbulence wind tunnel for general aerodynamics and flow measurements (vi) and a high-speed subsonic, a supersonic jet facility. Accompanied by the state-of-the-art equipment for noise, flow and load measurement (microphone arrays, time-resolved laser flow diagnostics, 6-axis load cells and force balances, in-house flow sensing and motion tracking devices), the wind tunnel laboratory at Bristol is at the forefront of cutting-edge fluids and acoustics research and continuously works with academic and industrial partners to deliver research excellence.
