Wiradjuri Wave

Peta Joy Williams is a Wiradjuri woman, born in Sydney. With her feet firmly in both cultures, the inland fresh water and the coastal salt water. Peta Joy finds an affinity with both and finds inspiration from unique elements of the two diverse nations. PJ has been involved with the Arts since her young school years. Painting Aboriginal art from Pre-School years with many pieces throughout her educational career being submitted into competitions. PJ then went on, after High School to complete a Cert IV in Aboriginal Art and Cultural practices and a Diploma in Fine Arts. PJ was formally a Wiradjuri Language Teacher at Eora College, facilitating art workshops and mural projects. PJ is the sole operator of Wiradjuri Wave, custom Aboriginal artworks on sports paraphernalia and fashion. PJ’s achievements: 2021-2022 Art word displayed on shop front for 18 months on Norton Street Leichardt 2021- Winner of the Bayside Council’s inaugural First Nations Art Competition 2021- Creator of Inner west city Councils Volunteers of the year of the year award (65 hand woven baskets) Video of PJ weaving projected on Leichhardt town hall 2021- Shortlisted to design to Sydney Swans 2022 Indigenous Jersey 2021- Miranda Bombers AFL Jersey 2021- Weaving design for Sheldon RAP art work 2019- Design for BW Tribal 2019- Major Weaving piece for Department of Aboriginal Affairs 2019- Painted footy boots for various Sydney Swans Players 2019- Daceyville Public School Mural 2018- Major Weaving piece for Department of Planning, Industry and Environment 2017- 2021 Balmain Tigers AFL Jersey (first local AFL team to have an Indigenous design) 2017- Dubbo West Public School Mural 2017- Major weaving piece for Create NSW 2016- First Solo Show at Boomali Aboriginal Artist Co-op
