WMATCHA＆CO. was founded by two young men captivated by Kyoto’s traditions. At 16, we met in Uji and later represented Japan in American football, carrying the national flag onto the world stage. That experience shaped us, leading to careers in finance across Silicon Valley, New York, and Tokyo. Yet, the relentless pace of modern life slowly pulled us away from who we once were. At 22, over dinner in Tokyo, we realized we weren’t alone—many in Japan had lost touch with their true selves. Rather than simply looking back, we chose to revive that essence through Kyoto’s timeless craft. Nishijin-ori, where over a thousand years of craftsmanship is woven into every thread. Uji matcha, a ritual refined for centuries. These are not relics, but living traditions—anchors of stillness in a world that never stops.
