January 2020, Dr. Tagwa Musa - an associate professor of petroleum engineering at Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) and the faculty advisor of Society of Petroleum engineers (SPE) student chapter– during her meeting with Sudan University SPE Student Chapter, she discovered her students were not familiar enouph with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and they don’t have a sustainable collaboration with other SUST engineering societies. Since SUST has five engineering colleges she decided to take action. She started to communicate with other engineering students to link these societies in one body. After many meetings and discussion with nine SUST societies including IEEE, MEI, SPE, IEOM, SMIS, EEC, CIVIL, SMART Choice and SWITCH; they decided to have a body known as “Integration of SUST Engineering Societies (ISES)”. The objectives of the integration are:
• To provide an opportunity for SUST engineering students to develop a better understanding of sustainable development goals and how they relate to their discipline.
• To promote the importance of scientific societies for more engagement in the professional activities
• To disseminate the culture of sustainability in the university learning environment and integrate it in the activities of scientific engineering societies.
