Although the art of Haute Couture has long been dominated by the French, it owes its inception to an Englishman, Charles Frederick Worth. He has been called the “Father of Haute Couture”. Born in 1825 in Lincolnshire, England Worth’s fascination with beautiful silks led him to move to Paris in 1845 with a desire to create ladies’ fashions.
