VMAS partners with the Wright State Alumni Association, the Veteran & Military Center, Wright State University, and other organizations to support the personal and professional success of the local Veteran & Military-Connected community.
VMAS was chartered through the Wright State Alumni Association in February 2019, but our roots go back further than that. In the fall of 2010, the establishment of the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the drawdowns in Iraq and Afghanistan led to a 300% increase in the number of students using the GI bill at Wright State. As the veteran & military-connected population spiked at Wright State University, a large student and faculty committee was formed to begin addressing the needs of these students.
These groups worked with the university to improve multiple aspects of the veteran and military-connected student experience. The grandest achievement of these teams was the creation of the Wright State Veteran & Military Center (VMC). Since its creation the VMC has gone on to serve students, support the local veteran and military community, and preserve history through the creation of the Wright State Veterans Voices Project. The individuals who led these efforts and organizations have expanded upon the resources available by establishing Wright State VMAS.
