About Bildschirm-Athleten
The first comprehensive German-language non-fiction book on e-sports is here! Never before has the phenomenon of e-sports in the German-speaking world been so comprehensively examined at a popular science level. Electronic sport, also known as e-sports, is a relatively young phenomenon. It is international, multicultural and on its way to becoming one of the biggest sports in the world. However, e-sports has not yet fully arrived in the mainstream of society. Large sections of the population, including in Germany, are not familiar with e-sports and people without an affinity for the internet have little chance of getting to grips with e-sports. This book is intended precisely for such people - but also for all other people who would like to learn more about e-sports in book form. In just under thirty chapters, the book describes and analyzes e-sports in general and in detail: What is e-sports? Where does it come from and where is it going? What is the current situation? How does the “system” of e-sports work? Is it a real sport? Can you earn money with it? What do you need to become an e-athlete? How does society view e-sports? What genres and disciplines are there? These and many other questions are discussed in the book. It examines e-sports as a global event, with a special focus on Germany. This is because this book was written primarily for German-speaking people in order to bring e-sports a little further into the social spotlight. Not only does this new type of sport deserve this, but it will also play a prominent role in the globalized and digitalized world in the future - a development that is not yet fully recognized in Germany. This book aims to change that.
