Established in 2006, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Saskatchewan is a volunteer driven, registered non-profit organization that works in partnership with organizations and businesses throughout Saskatchewan who share common principals regarding the intrinsic value of maintaining healthy biodiversity.
WRSOS supports the view that human society and wildlife can successfully coexist. WRSOS aims to promote respect and understanding for wildlife and nature through educational outreach initiatives.
Our first line of defense is our emergency wildlife hotline. This phone line is managed 12 hours/day, 365 days/year. The WRSOS is not a rehabilitation center, but rather, we work with the public, our volunteer veterinarians, and rehabilitators to ensure that wildlife in need can be rescued, receive transportation and get the qualified care required for eventual release back into the wild.
The hotline assists members of the public when they find an injured or orphaned wild animal, or when they have questions or need advice regarding wildlife issues. The dramatic increase in calls – from 177 in 2006 to almost 2,700 in 2017 – only highlights the important need for an organization like WRSOS!
