About WTAW Press
WTAW PRESS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit publishing a carefully curated list of titles across a range of genres (literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, essay, and prose that falls somewhere in between), subject matter, and perspectives. WTAW welcomes submissions from writers of all backgrounds. WTAW's imprint Betty publishes books by women for everyone. Alcove Chapbook Series focuses on chapbooks of prose. WTAW offers the annual Kevin McIlvoy Book Prize for an unpublished book of prose beginning fall of 2023. Founded and directed by Peg Alford Pursell in 2015, WTAW is based out of Northern California. WTAW books have been reviewed and covered in Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Shelf Awareness, Ms. Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, Booklist, the Moscow Times, among other national and international media outlets. They’ve found an ardent readership, evidenced by consistently long-lasting appearances on the bestselling lists of Small Press Distribution. WTAW books have received awards, accolades, and acclaim, appearing on lists of best books and most anticipated forthcoming books. They've received Foreword Book of the Year, Northern California Book Award shortlist (only small publisher of 5 ), William Saroyan International Prize long list, among others. WTAW offers standard contracts with royalties, and strives to effectively publicize, promote, and market books. WTAW does not charge authors for any aspect of book publishing and promotion. Books are professionally designed, edited, copyedited, and proofread. We strive to hire professionals who identify with groups who’ve been traditionally underrepresented in publishing. When it comes to small press publishing, opportunities often go to authors who may bolster a publisher’s reputation, since that helps with fundraising and financial support so essential to keeping the lights on. WTAW selects books, not authors, for publication. We will only publish books that make us proud— that's our ROI in our labor of love.
