WWF-Guianas

WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Guianas is an international NGO, part of the WWF global network. WWF was founded in 1961 and is the world's largest and leading conservation organization. Its mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. With country offices located in Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, WWF-Guianas is involved in actively pursuing this goal, while also achieving a plurality of site specific objectives. These include: - Ensuring that key ecological landscapes are protected and effectively managed - Managing wetlands and waterways to sustain healthy aquatic ecosystems and benefits for the region - Mitigating the negative impacts of climate change through the maintenance of primary forest cover and protection of mangroves. - Coordinating the efforts of civil society organizations, government institutions and citizens towards a green development model - Promoting education and awareness around conservation related matters
