Yaathum Biotech was started to indigenously develop affordable diagnostics for rapid and near patient testing of emerging infectious diseases like DR-TB, Ebola, Swine flu, Dengue, Leptospirosis, Malaria, HIV and screening /diagnostic/ prognostic testing of chronic diseases like Cancer, Diabetes, Thalassemia based on Real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) and other advanced bio-medical technologies. We are currently developing a multiplex qPCR based diagnostic test kit that will make possible the identification of full range of Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) at one third the present cost, taking a few hours to test and capable of identifying all Multi Drug Resistant MDR-TB and Extensively drug resistant XDR-TB strains in a single test which is not available at present. Yaathum Biotech has been recently awarded a highly competitive grant (BIG scheme) from BIRAC-DBT for this project. We expect to make huge societal and market impact through this innovation. We have official collaborative support from National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Chennai, and Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi - BIG partner in the project and M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), Chennai. We also currently provide research services for customers in academia and industries, in multiple areas of biotechnology - medicine, food, agriculture based on cutting edge technologies like PCR, Real-time PCR, DNA Sequencing/NGS, SDS-PAGE, reverse transcriptase PCR, Inverse PCR, Southern blotting, Western blotting, Dot blotting, Automated DNA Sequencing, Bisulphite modification of DNA, Bisulphite sequencing and Methylation specific PCR, bioinformatics analysis. We are the first in the country to provide training program in qPCR. Faculties from many medical colleges and universities have attended the course.
