A letter of credit (LC) is a financial instrument issued by a bank on behalf of a buyer, which guarantees payment to the seller for goods or services rendered. It provides assurance to the seller that he will receive payment as long as he meets the terms and conditions outlined in the letter of credit. A Standby Letter of Credit (SBLC) is similar to a Documentary Letter of Credit, but it is used as a backup payment mechanism in the event that the buyer is unable to meet its payment obligations. A bank guarantee (BG) is a written commitment by a bank to pay a specified amount if a borrower defaults on a loan or fails to meet the obligations under the contract. Proof of Funds (POF) is a document that verifies the availability of funds in the buyer's or borrower's bank account. It is often used in real estate transactions or large purchases. A bank letter of convenience (BOF) is a written statement from a bank indicating its support for a project or transaction, but does not guarantee repayment.
