York Central | A brand new city quarter for York Welcome to York Central, one of the UK’s largest, and most exciting, city centre regeneration schemes. Perfectly located next to the city’s railway station and National Railway Museum, it is a project of world-class ambition which is set to create a brand-new city quarter for York. And it’s here that a vibrant and distinctive mix of residential neighbourhoods, cultural spaces, public realm, and a high-quality commercial core, will come together to create a place like no other in the heart of one of the UK’s most historic and desirable cities. York Central is being developed by a joint venture partnership between McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate on behalf of majority landowners Homes England and Network Rail. Together, we’re on a mission to create the perfect city quarter for the people of York, by delivering a pioneering and extraordinary new place where everyone feels welcome. With a minimum of 2,500 new homes (20% of which will be affordable), York Central will create up to one million square feet of office, retail and hospitality space. It will also include improvements to the York Railway Station western entrance and a £50m enhancement of the National Railway Museum. It has the potential to generate up to 6,500 jobs and will help to grow York’s future economy by 20%. Urban regeneration schemes like York Central have a huge part to play in delivering economic growth in the North of England. The scheme has unprecedented support from Central, Regional and Local government, with £135m committed to deliver key upfront infrastructure (through the Housing Infrastructure Grant, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and City of York Council funding).
