Our Mission
The mission of Young Shipping Professionals of New York (YSPNY) is to promote and increase interaction among young professionals within the shipping industry and to provide a forum for members to develop their industry knowledge, foster career development and strengthen their connections with other members.
YSPNY evolved from a desire to increase interaction among our fellow colleagues. We are a like-minded club formed of young, smart and social people who admire the industry and appreciate the interpersonal networks that serve as its foundation. In addition to regular social gatherings, there will be an organized seminar or educational trip at least once a year, and members are encouraged to meet and exchange ideas!
Our History
YSPNY was founded in June 2007 by Sofia Vassilakis, Nora Huvane, Greg Chase, Joshua Katzeff, Laura Yagerman, Michael Kirk and Ian Bone. The group's first event was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Manhattan and what was originally expected to be a small gathering saw over 100 shipping professionals attended. Since then the organization has consistently grown and now has a following of over 1,000 people!
June 2012 saw YSPNY become a New York State Not For Profit Corporation and the formalization of our membership policy. As the organization continues to grow we look forward to expanding our offerings to our members.
