Mindfulness means a state of awareness here-and-now, and all mindfulness practices aims at strengthening this quality and ability of being present in the moment.
Mindfulness has nothing to do with religious beliefs or rituals. It has to do with our level of awareness in our daily activities and actions. Mindfulness is a form of mind training.
Ordinarily our attention is dominated by our thinking - we are caught up in the constant traffic of thoughts, in a state of absent mindedness.
