About Zimma Foundation
Globally, the gender gap in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is undeniable. According to UNESCO, women represent less than 30% of researchers worldwide (UNESCO Science Report, 2021). In sub-Saharan Africa, this figure drops even lower, with girls consistently underrepresented in STEM education and careers. - Only 16% of female students graduate with STEM degrees, compared to 37% of male students (World Bank Education Statistics, 2021). - Girls are 1.5 times more likely to perceive STEM as "too difficult" or "boring," influenced by persistent stereotypes and biases in education (Girls in STEM Study by Microsoft, 2018). These statistics highlight a systemic issue: STEM is often viewed as a "man's world," inaccessible and unappealing to many young girls. This limits opportunities for individual growth and stifles the potential for innovation and development across the continent. At Zimma Foundation, we are committed to bridging the gender gap in STEM by designing and implementing programs that leverage edutainment—a blend of education and entertainment—to inspire young girls and spark their interest in STEM. Vision Statement To ignite a passion for STEM in girls and build a future where STEM is truly inclusive. Mission Statement At Zimma Foundation, we embrace the responsibility to bridge the gender gap in STEM by inspiring and empowering girls through innovative edutainment, transforming lives and building stronger communities. Our Work Aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS): SDG 4: Quality Education SDG 5: Gender Equality SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities We seek partnerships with organisations and stakeholders who share our vision of creating opportunities for young girls. Together, we can drive lasting impact and ensure every girl has the chance to realise her full potential.
