ZONE LIBRE

Launched in 2019 by the eponymous association (under the artistic direction of Tommy Lawson), the Zone Libre festival presents works of electronic and electroacoustic music, improvised music, sound poetry, performances, sound and digital installations and times for debate and meetings with the public. The festival takes place over several days at the end of January until the beginning of February in different places in the city of Bastia. An annual event dedicated to the plurality of sound creation and research, Zone Libre highlights the dialogue between the audio works and the reception spaces in their different temporalities and supports (reading recordings, concerts, sound and audiovisual performances, but also the various crossings with the visual arts). Zone Libre has been developing for about ten years, in Bastia, a pluridisciplinary project in the field of digital arts and cultures in all their forms: current music, sound arts, visual arts, multimedia, performances and hybrid live shows. Within the framework of the Festival of Sound Arts, around known, less known and yet to be discovered artists, our project proposes to live eclectic musical and sound experiences, ranging from electronic, contemporary music, to experimental or improvised music, but also performances and meetings between musicians/composers and authors. With this festival, our objective is to encourage the crossing of contemporary writing and forms via sound in its creative diversity. Philippe Franck, director of the Pépinières européennes de Création (France), of the digital and sound culture centre Transcultures (Belgium) and of the international sound arts festival City Sonic, has been the curator of the sound route in the city since 2021, with a particular focus on emerging sound and digital art.
