Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (SIBET), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the only national institute for research and development of biomedical instruments in CAS. SIBET was co-founded by Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jiangsu provincial government and Suzhou municipal government. On August 1st, 2008, CAS commissioned Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) to manage the operation of SIBET. On November 26th, 2012, SIBET was approved and became an official CAS member.
To meet the significant needs in biomedical products, we focused on the basic, strategic, prospective researches in advanced biomedical instruments, reagents and biomedical materials, stimulated the development of biomedical engineering technology, established a platform for the innovation and transformation of medical instruments. Its main research fields cover medical optics, biomedical diagnostics, and rehabilitation technology.
SIBET has established State Key Laboratory of Solid State Lighting Research Center of Light for Health, Key Medical Optics Laboratory of Jiangsu Province, the Key Biomedical Diagnostic Laboratory of CAS and nine other Hi-Tech Key Laboratories of Suzhou City. Currently, SIBET has a number of PhD and Master programs.
SIBET has actively implemented a two-wheel drive development model of market-driven technological innovation and achievement-transforming mechanism innovation, endeavoring to build a new type of group-style research institution which has a combination of "talent + technology + industry + capital + market“. The medical instrumentation engineering platform, which combines the many elements for the transformation, has been built. SIBET has successfully incubated 56 high-tech enterprises.
