Die Bewegung ATD Vierte Welt ist eine internationale Nichtregierungsorganisation, die sich für die Überwindung der extremen Armut einsetzt, indem sie die Menschen einbezieht, die von ihr betroffen sind.
In der Schweiz ist die Bewegung ATD Vierte Welt seit 1967 präsent. Sie bringt Menschen mit unterschiedlichem sozialem und kulturellem Hintergrund zusammen, um gemeinsam über Armut und soziale Ausgrenzung nachzudenken, zu lernen und zu handeln.
ATD Vierte Welt setzt sich für eine Welt ohne Elend und Ausgrenzung ein, so dass jeder Mensch:

• zum gesellschaftlichen Zusammenleben unter Achtung der Unterschiedlichkeiten beitragen kann;
• alle Menschenrechte für sich beanspruchen kann;
• an der Gestaltung einer fairen Wirtschaft unter Achtung der Umwelt teilhaben kann.
Der Sitz von ATD Vierte Welt Schweiz befindet sich in Treyvaux im Kanton Freiburg. Das nationale Zentrum ist ein zweisprachiger (FR / DE) Ort der Begegnung, des Reflektierens, des kreativen Schaffens und der Weiterbildung zwischen Menschen, die in Armut leben, und anderen BürgerInnen, die sich gegen Armut und soziale Ausgrenzung einsetzen wollen. Es umfasst auch das nationale Sekretariat mit den Bereichen Kommunikation, Buchhaltung, Fundraising, Partnerschaftsarbeit und die Organisation des Archivs der Bewegung. Zusammen mit dem nationalen Zentrum bilden Teams in Basel, Genf und Rorschach die Basis von ATD Vierte Welt in der Schweiz.
