Typically, early-stage software companies believe they have a value prop that conveys to government, and hire an FTE. They’ll retain a Recruiter to find the “Best Federal Guy” and begin their journey. Some will have the advice of VCs, and/or other retired government consultants to “open doors”. Other options include expensive time-consuming group settings or “co-horts” that may be appropriate for later stage consideration. These approaches cost companies hundreds of thousands of dollars. Worse, companies may also embark on FedRamp (if SaaS) and spend over a Million dollars, to discover they simply did not have the right GTM plan in place, from the very beginning. Often this results in sales rep churn, disappointing revenue attainment and ultimately a poor reputation. In some cases, a complete abandoning of the market having wasted millions of dollars.
